The world is experienced as a sequence of trends and themes with very little notice given to the trending nature of global and local occurrences and behaviors. This method of operating subtly regulates behavior, beliefs and reality paradigms. On a collective level trends and themes dictate the manner in which a society will function by having tremendous influence. This kind of influence is diverse in range from behavioral and psychological (fear, violence, emotional illnesses/depression etc.) trends and themes to fashion to disease to catchy phrases and sexual behavior and trends.
In 2026, this process has become more accelerated, measurable, and technologically amplified. What once moved through culture organically now moves through algorithmic systems that track, predict, and even shape human behavior in real time. Social media platforms, AI-driven content systems, and behavioral data modeling now actively participate in reinforcing trends through repetition, emotional amplification, and personalized exposure. Neuroscience research confirms that repeated exposure strengthens neural pathways (Hebbian learning: “neurons that fire together wire together”), making trends not just social phenomena—but biological imprints within the brain.
What we experience is the easy integration of these trends also seen with social media, the latest technology or even illness. Cancer is indeed a trend as well as a theme, and so is the current rise of police shootings, bullying, emotional frailty, specific kinds of violence, or even the concept of the 99% vs. 1%, poverty, money scarcity, survival (variety) and much of the world as experienced.
Over the past decade, we have witnessed additional waves of collective themes such as global pandemics, digital identity, mental health crises, AI integration, and biohacking culture. These themes do not simply emerge; they are reinforced through continuous feedback loops between media, institutions, and human attention. Research in psychoneuroimmunology now shows that perception, belief, and stress narratives directly influence immune function and physiological outcomes, suggesting that the “trend” of illness may also be partially mediated through perception and chronic stress signaling.
Overtime we find that we conform to trends even those we were once opposed to. We may find that eventually our opposition gradually fades; “resistance is futile”. The borg mind is real.
Today, this “borg mind” has a neurological correlate. Mirror neuron systems, social conformity studies, and large-scale behavioral research demonstrate that humans unconsciously synchronize with group behavior, especially under uncertainty. Digital environments intensify this effect, creating what researchers now refer to as “collective behavioral entrainment.”
We hold dear fantastic constructs and closely guard prefabricated impressions of how to live and how to function in this construct defined as reality. Most often we unconsciously strive to work within this invisible framework although we may aim to be rebels. It’s a very cunning process as we succumb to the emotional spirals of this experience.
We become victim and victimizer, the stalker and the stalked, the good person and the bad person, the selfish and the selfless, the oppressor and the oppressed, the leader and the follower, the healthy and the diseased, the spiritual and the unspiritual on and on, always on the run from the clutches of reality; on the run from the game.
Particularly fascinating is the rising trend brought about by social media the now termed influencers and followers. Although these archetypes more than likely have always existed, prior societies automatically assumed either role perhaps with less pressure to choose one.
In the current landscape, identity itself has become a trend. The concept of “self” is now continuously curated, performed, and validated through digital platforms. Neuroimaging studies suggest that social validation (likes, shares, comments) activates the brain’s reward circuitry, particularly dopamine pathways, reinforcing behavioral patterns and identity loops tied to external approval.
Where will the current “Me too” trend lead? And how long will it last? Is that information collected and where does it all go. In what way will it be used.
In today’s environment, data is not only collected, it is monetized, modeled, and used to predict future behavior. Entire industries now operate on behavioral forecasting, utilizing machine learning to anticipate human responses before they occur. This raises deeper questions not only about influence—but about autonomy.
We cling to religion and spiritual beliefs for emotional security and assurance that things will get better; and that there is a “better” beyond this life. As we examine this progression perhaps, we should ponder the question; are we really being chased or are we running from ourselves, the projector of all that we fear.
This is a masterful paradox. It seems evident that trends and themes run the show.

While the Global Consciousness Project remains controversial within mainstream science, newer fields such as network neuroscience, complexity science, and systems biology are beginning to explore how large-scale human behavior may exhibit emergent patterns. Studies of synchronized brain activity, collective emotional responses (such as during global events), and even social media sentiment analysis suggest that humans may operate within interconnected informational fields, though not necessarily in the mystical framing often attributed to the noosphere.
The significance here is the role of the noosphere.
In modern terms, one could consider the noosphere as an early conceptual framework for what we now observe as a global information network—composed of digital systems, communication technologies, and shared cognitive environments. Whether metaphorical or literal, the impact is the same: human thought is no longer isolated, it is continuously interacting within a global feedback system.
It is evident that themes and trends can very much so dictate the direction of human evolution and the adaptations we make as a species.
Current research in epigenetics supports the idea that environmental inputs—including stress, behavior, and perception—can influence gene expression. While not supporting the idea that trends directly rewrite DNA in the way once speculated, it does confirm that lived experience and environmental pressures (including psychological ones) can shape biological outcomes across generations.
The interdependent nature of human relationships as a species… ensures psychological commonality…In addition, large-scale studies in behavioral economics and social psychology (such as conformity experiments, social contagion theory, and network influence models) demonstrate that beliefs, habits, and even emotional states can spread through populations in patterns like viral transmission. This gives new scientific grounding to the idea that “trends spread like viruses.”

Now expanded into multi-platform ecosystems including TikTok, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and AI-generated environments, the “stage” has evolved into an immersive behavioral feedback system. The distinction between observer and participant is increasingly blurred as users simultaneously consume and produce the very trends that shape them.
This is the age of the dissolution of privacy. Everyone will be naked together…
In 2026, this has extended beyond social exposure into biometric data, wearable devices, neurotechnology, and even brain-computer interface development. Human data—biological, emotional, cognitive—is becoming part of the digital ecosystem, raising new questions about identity, ownership, and autonomy.
Health is currently at the top of the “trending theme” list…
